Back for another sweet year, the Honey Jam Concert showcased a new set of emerging singers at its 31st annual concert.
Hailing from Brampton and currently based in Toronto, Rianna Jones was one of the twenty artists who took the stage at the concert held on August 20th, 2026. Her performance lived up to her love of R&B with her song “A Couple of Minutes.” The song left the audience cheering and fawning over her soulful voice, and she even got them to sing along with her at one point.
Jones was always surrounded by music. Her father’s career as a musician inspired her to want to become a musician herself. Growing up she always remembered her father having a bunch of equipment stored that he would use to produce his own music. Her father also went to church often and at times stepped away from music to focus on his spiritual journey but would always find his way back to music. It was an indicator for Jones that she would always be surrounded by music. Whenever she would find herself moving away from music, it would always come back to her as it did for her father.
Singing for over a decade and putting herself out there was the first step Jones took in making her dream a reality. She stepped out of her comfort zone by going to open mics, with her biggest step out of her comfort zone being when she auditioned for Honey Jam. “Just taking risks and running towards the resistance, “ said Jones.
Jones continued to hone her craft in an artistic high school when she was a student at Mayfield Secondary School. She credits one of her teachers, Mrs. Jeniffer Moon, for being one of her mentors who pushed her to remain versatile and to not just be comfortable and strong in one avenue.
R&B is like home to Jones, but she also learned to sing classical music, which led to her singing opera for a while. Mrs. Moon pushed her to do more than she could imagine. Jones was in a lot of choirs and was in a production for the school’s senior vocal jazz ensemble, The Magnetics, which was recorded by CBC. Mayfield was the place where Jones learned the foundation of what her voice is and how to use it, not only for singing, but also for advocating for it and being a voice for inspiring others to use theirs.

Singing background for multiple artists was a great learning opportunity for Jones. She sang background for artists like: Shahaddah, Truss, Ryan Douglas and Luna Elle. Singers, along with producers and engineers, gave her advice to continue walking in her purpose, her truth and stay authentic.
Beyonce is one artist Jones would love to collaborate with in the future. She also wants to collaborate with the girl group FLO because she loves the way they arrange their harmonies. Brandy and Jazmine Sullivan are also part of the list of artists she would like to collaborate with.
Jones has plans to start recording her own music this year. She wants to experiment by blending the styles of the artists she is influenced by, the singing styles she learned in high school (jazz and opera), with R&B, a genre that remains close to her heart, being the focal point.
