Not how long, but how well you have lived is the main thing

BY SABRINA S. – 13 YEARS OLD

When you’re not an adult, you don’t find “adult things” interesting. One of these things can be politics. I have never really gotten into politics because I can’t vote and I have never researched about any politicians. In grade 4, our class had to “vote” for a mayor, this was all part of our history and politics study. We had to research Canada’s history and I found that pretty interesting.

As the election comes closer and closer, everyone wants to know about who they should vote for and why. What do these politicians bring to the table?

Well, I’m here to tell you.

During summer, me and my brother went and volunteered for the Liberal Party of Canada. I met Ruby Sahota and was lucky enough to ask her a couple questions. What are her goals and how is she going to improve the community?

Ruby has always been passionate about justice. During her school years, she joined the student council, she went to protests, kept up to date with the news and was always vocal about issues that mattered to her.

When she first ran for MP, she was running against the incumbent Conservative candidate who fit the alpha male politician image. As a woman of colour, she was always under-estimated. She never let anything get her down and used this as her strength by constantly out-performing.

She advises young kids to volunteer with campaigns or organizations that do work in fields you’re interested in, read the news, and join local events or initiatives. You’re never too young to be involved

Ruby is an amazing and inspiring woman to all. Her work has inspired many girls and boys all over the country.
