At least once in our lives, we encounter someone we have met on the internet. Whether that is through gaming or some type of live stream, we find ourselves developing a friendship with them. You nurture this friendship, because you finally found someone that understands you in a way that no one has seen you before.
Harmless fun you haven’t experienced in ages turns into a sketchy situation that your parents don’t approve of. It always starts out as, “I know better not to fall for any tricks,” or “I’m pretty sure I can trust them.” You start to reveal little personal things about yourself, and last but not least, once you get busy with your life the whole friendship spirals into a pit of disaster and sorrow.
My question to you is, how sure are you? In reality, we don’t know better; the age gaps, the getting in between situations that don’t have anything to do with you. I ask you again, how sure are you? Seeing from our parents’ perspectives is something we all have to do, as from their point of view this “friendship” is atrocious, and secretly, you recognize it too, but always when it’s too late.
Unfortunately, our children of today and tomorrow will be facing these issues, and may not have the courage or the visibility to ask someone for advice. So, I advise parents to check up on their children’s computer activity. When we feel lonely we tend to stop at nothing from feeling this unbearable pain, but this is not the way to do it. I assure you, trusting strangers online is not the answer. Fill that void with loved ones who can actually be there for you, and who care for you unconditionally. Now, those are the true heroes you seek.
One way or another we grow, we learn from our mistakes, and we will keep on thriving, as it is the only humane thing we have left to do.
