BY DT THE ARTIST

DCD is a new music group combining Hip Hop, Soul and G-Funk. The group is made up of members Drae Lawson, Chief Reckah and DT the Artist. The group is dynamic in the sense that each member brings something specific to the table. Drae Lawson has a deep velvety voice reminiscent of artists like Barry White and Nate Dogg, while also having the skills as a producer using an MPC. Chief Reckah is the spitter of the group with thought provoking lyrics and a ‘90’s reminiscent style that still works today. Rounding off the group is DT the business man and mentor of the group, bringing insight and experience.

Over the last few months DCD has been quietly building in the studio, recording and laying the foundation for the group to build momentum. So now 2017 is the year of DCD. The group intends to release its first EP “DCD” which features the tracks “Run It Up” a feature with Migo Domingo of YRN (Atlanta) produced by Drae Lawson and No Long Talking.  “Real OG” produced by DT, “What Up Tho” produced by DT and a few other tracks are in the works including one from New York Battle Rapper and Femcee Bonnie Godiva. DCD will be looking to collaborate with other great talents in the city such as Alicia Cinnamon, Rochester aka Juice, and the group goal is to do a feature with the legendary Michie Mee. The group intends to shoot videos for all of their upcoming songs and collaborations. Not to give away too much but you can also look out for them on film soon as they work on creating a short movie.

The group came together organically, usually being around each other in the studio and working on artist development. The fit was perfect as each member brought something unique to the table. Working together the group has formulated a plan, to start touring this summer and will be making appearances at festivals such as South by South west in Austin, Texas and later Atlanta for the A3C music coast. The group also plans to head to LA to record its first full length LP, and later to Florida to work with DJ Black Ent (QC DJ’s) and Last King Visuals.

Over the next few months the group will be working on shooting music videos, and honing their stage set as they get ready for future performances. DCD intends to fully take advantage of 2017 and lay the groundwork to build their legacy. DCD is a group made up of three individual artists with very unique and interesting styles. Drae Lawson got his start in music through being a part of an accapella singing group, doing the base vocals. Through the gospel group he had the opportunity to travel and perform across Canada. In 2015 Drae Lawson took the leap to become his own artist and created his own style fusing Dance, Hip Hop, Soul, and G-Funk. Chief Reckah got his start doing battles and freestyles in the Scarborough area, carefully crafting similies, metaphors, and rhymes that you need to hear three times to fully catch. DT the artist has been an artist since 1998 and has had the opportunity to travel and perform across Canada, the US and parts of the Caribbean.
In the short time that they have been together DCD has started to build great relationships with some of Toronto’s best and brightest. In the near future look out for the release of the self titled EP “DCD” and many shows and appearances.
