It was Halloween a few days ago and I thought it was very special because kids got to trick-or-treating this year. But many other things happened during the weekend as well.
On Saturday night, a sixty-six-year-old pedestrian was involved in a hit and run near East Broadway and Commercial drive. Vancouver police are investigating the hit and run accident after the driver left the scene. Police say that the sixty-six-year-old was walking near East Broadway and Commercial Drive when she was hit by a vehicle that continued to proceed eastward without stopping. They located the suspect vehicle after the incident and arrested a thirty-year old man from Surrey, BC. Police say that speed and alcohol were factors of this incident. Nobody knows the identity of the woman and the police have decided not to share who they arrested with the public. The man is now serving jail time.
Following up with the vaccines, B.C public service employees will be put on an unpaid leave if still unvaccinated by November 22nd. Any public service employee who has not received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by November 22nd will be placed on unpaid leave for three months, B.C. health officials say. Workers who still aren’t vaccinated after that period “may be terminated,” Health Minister Adrian Dix said during a news conference Monday. “This is a necessary step to support vaccination and help protect all of our workplaces and communities from COVID-19,” Dix said.
Separately, in the health-care sector, more than 3,300 workers are now on unpaid leave because they were not immunized by the October 26th deadline for mandatory vaccination. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said any loss of staff is another challenge for an exhausted health-care system. Get vaccinated, save a life.
